I remember the very moment I decided I wanted to be a home birth midwife. I read only one description of the important role of the midwife in a book and knew that this was my path. It was the trust and respect for women and families and the delicate balance of science, innate wisdom and magic of birth that drew me in. I quickly became obsessed with all things birth, midwifery and women’s health. The decision was easy and looking back the path was long but really quite worth it.
I first became a labor and delivery nurse in a very busy high risk hospital in Manhattan. I also attended births as a doula before beginning midwifery school, became a lactation counselor and a childbirth educator.
Through my experience as a nurse, a doula and now a midwife, my belief in birth and the strength of women could not be stronger. Working with Valeriana as been an honor and a great pleasure to be in an entirely new environment. Truly there is never a dull moment in a career with mothers and babies and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
